The “Liceo Scientifico Orazio Grassi” is a secondary school which was founded in 1948; it is situated in Savona, a town in the north-west of Italy. At present more than 1,000 students are attending our school and they are aged between 14 and 19. About 80 teachers and 20 secretarial and technical staff members work in the school.

Our school is named after the Jesuit Orazio Grassi (1583-1654), an important mathematician, astronomer and architect, who developed a theory about comets and decorated the interior of S. Ignazio, a famous baroque church in Rome.

The “Liceo Scientifico Orazio Grassi” is a State school and its main aim is to promote education, good citizenship and the observance of the law, according to the principles of the Italian Constitution. Its curriculum includes subjects related both to classical studies and to the scientific area, and develops the approach which characterises mathematics and the scientific method. The students who attend our school, after obtaining their diploma, continue studying at a university.

The subjects which are taught in our school are Italian language and literature, Latin language and literature, English language and literature, history, philosophy, geography, biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, information technology, drawing, history of art, physical education and religious education (which is optional). Moreover, students can choose to deepen the study of mathematics and physics, information technology, or biology, chemistry and geology.

Our School adopts a Quality Management System, UNI EN ISO 9001-2000 certified, with the purpose of ensuring higher processes functionality and the continuous improvement of performances, and is equipped with effective procedures centred on teaching-learning and customer satisfaction systematic detection tools.
